BURSAL PROTECTION
Good protection is necessary against IBDV and is followed by vaccination to shield the bursa of Fabricius.
The bursa of Fabricius is, a specialized organ that is necessary for “B” cell development in birds. The bursa is an epithelial and lymphoid organ that is found only in birds. The “B” in “B cell” refers to bursa derived.
To establish Bursal protection, Merial offers a wide variety of IBDV vaccines including live Classic (mild, intermediate, potentiated intermediate and intermediate plus strains), variant (Delaware) and inactivated vaccines.
Potential Bursal Diseases:
INFECTIOUS BURSAL DISEASE:
An acute, contagious viral disease of young chickens with a predilection for lymphoid tissues. It is characterized by diarrhea; vent picking, trembling, and inflammation followed by atrophy of the bursa of Fabricius (BF) and by a variable degree of immunosuppression.
