RECOMBITEK® EQUINE WNV
West Nile Virus Vaccine, Live Canarypox Vector
Many types of animals can acquire West Nile Virus - notably crows, jays, humans, and horses. The mosquito-borne virus first emerged in North America in 1999 and has been carried throughout much of the continent by migratory birds. WNV affects the central nervous system of the horse. Symptoms can appear rapidly, and may include:
- Listlessness
- Trembling
- Depression
- Loss of appetite
- Stumbling
- Weakness
- Head tilting
- Partial paralysis
- Convulsions and even death.
Fever is present in about one-quarter of equine WNV cases, and up to one-third of all horses showing clinical signs may die.
The unpredictable nature of West Nile Virus and its potentially devastating consequences make annual vaccination an important safeguard for your horse. Your veterinarian can advise you about vaccine options, including innovative RECOMBITEK EQUINE WNV vaccine from Merial.
INDICATIONS:
RECOMBITEK® EQUINE WNV is recommended for the vaccination of healthy horses as an aid in the prevention of viremia due to West Nile Virus infection.
