RECOMBITEK® EQUINE INFLUENZA
Equine Influenza Vaccine, Live Canarypox Vector
rFLU-SD
Equine influenza is a virus infection that is spread through the air by respiratory secretions (i.e. sneezing) and can also be transferred by contaminated objects and people moving between infected and uninfected horses. While almost 100% of horses that are exposed to the virus become infected, almost one in five will not show any clinical signs – but will continue to shed the virus.
Equine influenza targets the upper respiratory tract, and clinical signs may include:
- Fever
- Coughing
- Nasal discharge
- Depression
- Muscle soreness
- Reduced feed intake and weight loss
While healthy adult horses typically recover from equine influenza in 7 to 14 days, the infection can evolve rapidly into fatal viral pneumonia in young foals. Secondary infections that emerge while a horse is infected with equine influenza can complicate and prolong recovery. A number of these secondary infections are potentially fatal.
Fortunately, effective vaccines, including RECOMBITEK EQUINE INFLUENZA Virus Vaccine, are available through your veterinarian. Talk to your veterinariann and discuss how you can protect your horse from the severity of equine influenza – and minimize its spread within your facility – through vaccination and annual boosters.
Only RECOMBITEK EQUINE INFLUENZA Virus Vaccine delivers the following benefits:
